Abstract

This essay traces a journey that begins with the simple act of digitizing family photographs and unfolds into an exploration of memory, preservation, and the evolving nature of love. Through the methodical process of feeding each photo through a scanner, I watch as my grandmother's carefully dated envelopes and distinctive handwriting reveal shifts in her mental state. The narrative examines how we attempt to preserve what matters most. The piece meditates on the transformation of physical artifacts into digital immortality, using this transition as a lens to consider deeper questions about memory and change. As my grandmother's photographic focus shifts from birthday parties to her lawn, the essay contemplates how love remains constant even as its expression evolves, ultimately revealing how we hold onto moments that inevitably slip through our fingers no matter the medium.
